Great Decisions: A Current Events Discussion Group

Thursdays, January 26, February 9 and 23, March 9 and 23, April 6 and 20, May 11, 1:30–3:00 p.m. (8 sessions)

About the Program

Become an informed citizen! In this stimulating discussion group, discuss and debate important international current events with the guidance of an experienced moderator and guest lecturers from area universities and think tanks.

Topics this winter include:

  • The Future of Europe
  • Trade and Politics
  • Conflict in the South China Sea
  • Saudi Arabia in Transition
  • U.S. Foreign Policy and Petroleum
  • Latin America’s Political Pendulum
  • Prospects for Afghanistan and Pakistan
  • Nuclear Security

Affiliated with the Foreign Policy Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring the American public to debate important international issues.

Required text: Great Decisions 2017. Please bring a check for $25 payable to the Skirball Cultural Center to the first session.

Moderator: Adele Lander Burke, Vice President, Learning for Life, Skirball Cultural Center, has a BA in political science from Washington University, St. Louis, and an MA in education from Hebrew Union College, Los Angeles. Burke has been facilitating current events discussion groups for several years.
