DEMOCRACY MATTERS

Re-Creating the United States

Student Takeover Day

Saturday, November 3. Drop in anytime, 12:00–3:00 p.m.

ADMISSION

  • Included with Museum admission; no reservations

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Just in time for Election Day, see what local high school students—working with members of their community and a team of professors at Otis College of Art and Design—have created when invited by the Skirball to explore why “Democracy Matters.”

At this special “Student Takeover Day,” experience art, film, and programming developed by Granada Hills eleventh graders and join a conversation about local, contemporary perspectives on democracy and personal freedoms. Activities include:

  • Hear a brand new drums-and-bass take of “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” composed by student “DJs
    for Democracy.”
  • Check out revolutionary-era fashion with a
    modern twist.
  • Make and taste a custom-blend “LiberTEA.”
  • Sample a scone made using a recipe by original “foodie” Thomas Jefferson.
  • Hear Jacob Soboroff of HuffPost Live talk to students and visitors about election equity.
  • Stand in someone else shoes, literally, and
deepen our understanding of the diversity of
    Americans’ experiences.
