ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Guided by experts from USC Emeriti Center College, discuss and debate international current events topics, such as cybersecurity, Middle East realignment, and the state of the oceans.
Become an informed citizen! In this discussion group affiliated with the Foreign Policy Association (FPA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring the American public to learn more about the world, participants discuss and debate important international current events topics with the guidance of an experienced moderator. For a deeper understanding of the issues, background information and news are provided in the FPA’s Great Decisions briefing book. Topics and guest speakers this winter include:

• Energy Geopolitics—Adam Rose
• Exit from Afghanistan and Iraq—Patrick James
• Indonesia—Janet Hoskins
• Mexico—Abraham F. Lowenthal
• Middle East Realignment—Laurie A. Brand
• Promoting Democracy—Gerardo Munck
• State of the Oceans—Karla Heidelberg
Guest speakers subject to change.
Great Decisions is offered in collaboration with the University of Southern California Emeriti Center College. Members of this organization, comprised of both active and retired USC faculty, will provide expert analysis on several course topics.
Moderator: Adele Lander Burke—Vice President, Learning for Life, Skirball Cultural Center—has a BA in political science from Washington University, St. Louis, and an MA in education from Hebrew Union College, Los Angeles. Burke has been facilitating current events discussion groups for many years.
Additional fees and materials: A fee of $20, payable to the Skirball Cultural Center at first class session, to purchase the required text, Foreign Policy Association Reader.
