ABOUT THE PROGRAM
This course surveys religions that have emerged and flourished on American soil, emphasizing how each religious path reflects contact with the larger culture.
In examining the history, theology, and practice of these religious traditions, it will become apparent that in the midst of religious diversity, the different American religions have more in common than their followers sometimes think. Among the religions included in this survey are the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Scientology, Seventh Day Adventism, and Jehovah’s Witnesses. The course will also address American expressions of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam.
Instructor: Saba Soomekh, PhD, is Assistant Director, Jewish Studies Program, Loyola Marymount University.
