About the Program

Travel the globe with performers fusing contemporary and traditional Jewish music through writer-director Tamás Wormser’s poetic documentary.

Through a series of encounters with Jewish musicians in Uganda, Argentina, Canada, and beyond, this documentary explores the diversity of Jewish identity. Shattering stereotypes and upending expectations, Wormser reveals how the Jewish diaspora has inspired a constant dialogue between the traditional and the contemporary in Jewish music—jazz, hip-hop, and East African chanting merge with klezmer, cantorial singing, and Hebrew prayers. Each scene bares the souls of Jewish musicians wandering in a borderless world of harmonies. (2014, 94 min. No MPAA rating. In English, French, German, Yiddish, Ladino, Judeo-Arabic, Lugandan, Spanish, and ancient Hebrew with English subtitles.)

A Q&A and performance by featured musician Jeremiah Lockwood follows the screening.
