Family Art Studio

The Skirball's Family Art Studio is a recently renovated art-making space where families can work together to create unique works of art using innovative materials and challenging new techniques. Each month try your hand at a new wearable or decorative project.

Bring the whole family to the Skirball’s Last Weekends of the Month. These fun-filled Saturdays and Sundays feature special last-weekend-only performances and activities that change every month. Take part in related art activities in the Family Art Studio, too.

Skirball Explorers: The Snowy Day

Tuesdays, April 29–June 3, 10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

In this six-week course, offered in conjunction with the exhibition The Snowy Day and the Art of Ezra Jack Keats, explore the artful world of the acclaimed children’s book author and illustrator through hands-on activities, gallery explorations, art projects, music making, storytelling, and more.

Fallen Fruit Pomegranate Tree Adoption

Sunday, May 4, 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

As a preview to their exhibition at the Skirball, Fallen Fruit invites you to participate by adopting a pomegranate tree. The artists encourage the planting of these young trees in public space or along the borders of private property in order to create new kinds of communal life based on generosity and sharing. Each recipient signs an adoption form promising to care for the tree—initiating a relationship with it. There will be 150 pomegranate trees distributed for adoption.

Snowy Day Art Workshop

Sunday, May 4, 1:00–3:00 p.m.

In conjunction with the exhibition The Snowy Day and the Art of Ezra Jack Keats, work with noted artist and educator Sandy Rodriguez to create Keats-inspired artwork.

Snowy Dreams Family Sleepover

Saturday, June 7, 6:00 p.m.–Sunday, June 8, 9:00 a.m.

In conjunction with the exhibition The Snowy Day and the Art of Ezra Jack Keats, pack up your pajamas and your sleeping bag for this one-time-only, unique Keats-themed sleepover.

Family Amphitheater Performances

Saturdays and Sundays, June 21–August 31,
12:00 and 2:00 p.m.

Make the Skirball your family’s go-to destination all summer long! Sing along with performers, dance to music from around the world, and meet live animals at our summer amphitheater series.
