Bring the whole family to the Skirball’s Last Weekends of the Month. These fun-filled Saturdays and Sundays feature special last-weekend-only performances and activities that change every month. Take part in related art activities in the Family Art Studio, too.

AUGUST 30–31

Drop by anytime 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

In conjunction with The Snowy Day and the Art of Ezra Jack Keats, draw inspiration from Keats’s use of shadows in many of his children’s books. Join artist and educator Brenda Cruz to create a community shadow collage using chalk and other drawing materials.

Drop by anytime 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

In September, the Jewish year begins anew. Together with local farmers associated with farmers markets producer City Farm, celebrate the delicious combination of apples and honey—two foods traditionally eaten in honor of Rosh Hashanah, to usher in a sweet new year. Work on a harvest-related art project using natural materials with artist Amy Johnson.

Drop by anytime 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

As part of the citywide festival The Big Draw LA, local artist and graphic designer Becca Lofchie leads the collaborative drawing project “Exquisite Garden.” Help draw a plant by adding your own root, flower, stem, or fruit to a larger ongoing piece in the style of “exquisite corpse”—a method invented by the surrealists.
