About the performers

After playing in several bands around New York City and doing some time with the New York All-State Orchestra, Jenny O. settled in Los Angeles by the late 2000s where she recorded a yet-to-be released LP with Jason Lader (Elvis Costello, Coldplay). After experiencing an artistic flurry of growing pains, she gathered herself and a special group of local musicians to make a stripped-down recording of her material, resulting in the critically acclaimed EP Home. Her follow-up album, Automechanic, reveals touches of local luminaries such as like Harry Nilsson, Ricky Lee Jones, Randy Newman, and Carole King, and is produced by Jonathan Wilson (Father John Misty, Dawes, Will Oldham).

Jeffrey Jacob and Angela Gail met in Los Angeles, playing guitar and bass, respectively, in a loud, grungy guitar band, but the seeds of In the Valley Below were planted one night at SXSW, when the two realized there was something special in the chemistry they shared on stage. The title track from the band’s 2013 Hymnal EP was chosen as a “top tune” by KCRW. In the Valley Below’s forthcoming full-length album was written, produced, engineered, and recorded by the band in a home studio, and is described by Jacob as having “big sweeping choruses, a combination of analog and digital, organic and synthetic—trusting our ears, not the rules.”

Local band Body Parts was started by vocalist/guitarist Ryder Bach in 2009, and also features Alina Cutrono on vocals and guitar, Raymond Proudfoot on bass and synthesizer, and Taylor Dexter on percussion and drums. They’ve been described by the Los Angeles Times as being “indebted to cerebral dance music makers such as Talking Heads and Dirty Projectors.” The band’s On Purpose EP contains eighties-inspired, danceable tracks with thoughtful lyrics. A new album, Fire Dream, is slated for release later this year.
