ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Learn how to use the medium known as Precious Metal Clay (PMC) in this course offered in partnership with Otis College of Art and Design.
Ancient jewelry-making techniques converge with new millennium technology through Precious Metal Clay (PMC). This malleable material, consisting of fine silver particles suspended in an organic binder and water, can be formed like earthen clay. When fired in a kiln, it fuses or “sinters” to become a 99.9% pure silver object.
In this intensive class, students begin to master PMC as they learn how to texture, set gems, roll coils, form custom bails, re-hydrate dry material, and use a butane torch to fire creations made at home. Students create an original pair of earring drops and a pendant. The course covers various finishing methods including wire brushing, burnishing, and patinas.
No previous experience is necessary.
Instructor: Delia Marsellos-Traisteris a jewelry artist and instructor specializing in metal clay techniques. She is the owner of Phoenix Magyk, LLC. She has exhibited at many shows and galleries and is a member of several professional guilds related to metal and metal and clay work.
