Members-Only Talk—Ai Weiwei: Trace

Virtual Talk

Thursday, December 17, 3:00 pm (PT)

About the Program

In this virtual Members-only talk, Skirball curator Yael Lipschutz previews the forthcoming exhibition Ai Weiwei: Trace, featuring more than eighty portraits by the Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei. Made from of thousands of plastic LEGO® bricks and originally assembled by hand by hundreds of volunteers, the individuals portrayed—like the artist himself—have been detained, exiled, or have sought political asylum because of their actions, beliefs, or affiliations. Lipschutz will share insights about the installation of the exhibition at the Skirball, scheduled to open on site in early 2021, and discuss the creation and history of the project.
