Members-Only Talk—Tightrope: Americans Reaching for Hope

Virtual Talk

Wednesday, December 9, 7:30 pm (PT)

About the Program

Join Skirball curator Cate Thurston for a special preview of Tightrope: Americans Reaching for Hope, a new online exhibition scheduled to launch in January 2021. Based on the New York Times bestselling book by journalists Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn and featuring photographs by Lynsey Addario, Tightrope illustrates the stories of everyday Americans who have fallen behind in this, the world’s wealthiest country. Told in part through the lives of people with whom Kristof grew up in rural Yamhill, Oregon, Tightrope bears witness to the resilience of the human spirit even as it chronicles the experiences of America’s working poor. In this virtual talk exclusively for Members, Thurston will share insights and images by the three Pulitzer Prize-winning contributors and discuss the process of transforming their work into a digital experience.
