An Evening with Jamie Baum and Myra Melford

Angel City Jazz at the Skirball

Friday, October 15, 8:00 pm (doors at 7:00 pm)

About the Program

The Skirball is honored to partner with Angel City Jazz for an evening with flutist Jamie Baum and pianist Myra Melford. Bridging elements of Arabic, Indian, and Jewish music through inventive jazz compositions, Baum has “played an essential role in bringing the flute from jazz’s margins to the center of the action” (The Mercury News).

Opening the show, Melford has spent the last three decades making music that draws inspiration from the blues of her native Chicago, the poetry of Fernando Pessoa, and literature by Eduardo Galeano to create a sound NPR hails as having “an endless capacity for elasticity and surprise.” Together, Baum and Melford bring to the Skirball stage an evening of jazz that promises to be equal parts unexpected and engaging.
