Jacob do Bandolim 101

A Century of Brazilian Song with Tio Chorinho

Friday, February 15, 8:00 p.m.

About the Program

Celebrate the 101st birthday of the Brazilian Jewish mandolin virtuoso and composer Jacob do Bandolim with choro music performed by the ensemble Tio Chorinho.

Showcasing this energetic and soulful popular genre—a precursor to samba and bossa nova, often referred to as the Brazilian equivalent of ragtime or jazz—the Toronto-based ensemble is led by mandolinist Eric Stein and will feature LA songstress Kátia Moraes for a night of indispensable standards of the Brazilian songbook. Enjoy an opening act by seven-string guitarist Fabiano do Nascimento, and then be transported to the cabarets of early twentieth-century Rio de Janeiro.
