A Spoken Word Celebration of Female Empowerment

About the Program

During Women’s History Month, come to the Skirball for its third annual celebration of women who march forth! In the face of adversity these women find their voices, inspiring diverse communities to work together for a more just, inclusive, and equitable society.

This year’s lineup features Elizabeth Acevedo (2016 National Slam Champion, Beltway Grand Slam Champion, 2016 Women of the World Poetry Slam Representative for Washington, DC), Olivia Chumacero (activist, poet, writer, filmmaker, permaculturist, Raramuri elder, and consultant and preservationist for the Los Angeles State Historic Park), Myriam Gurba (poet, writer, and LGBT activist), and singer-songwriter Irene Diaz.

An artist meet and greet and book signing follow the program.

Arrive early to mix and mingle! 

  • Grab a bite to eat from local food trucks Mandoline Grill and Triple Threat Truck, open from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Stop by an art-making pop-up hosted by Self Help Graphics & Art, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. 
  • Enjoy micheladas, beer, wine, cocktails, and other snacks, available for purchase throughout the night!
