Daymé Arocena

Thursday, August 17, 8:00 p.m. (Doors and DJ set at 6:30 p.m.)

About the Program

Become immersed in the contemporary Cuban music scene with Daymé Arocena. Showcasing a powerful stage presence, the singer-composer combines Santerian chant, rhythmic complexity, fluid jazz styling, and a nuanced Afro-Cuban soulfulness. Hear her perform songs from her latest album, Cubafonía—praised by Pitchfork as “a vibrant, bold record that is, at its heart, a love letter to her home country”—live at the Skirball.

Arrive early to listen to a DJ set by dublab’s Carlos Niño!

The concert is copresented with the Ford Theatres.

This engagement of Daymé Arocena is funded through Southern Exposure: Performing Arts of Latin America, a program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts
