An Evening with Julie Andrews—To Be Rescheduled

Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years

Tuesday, April 21, 8:00 pm

About the Program

Writers Bloc Presents® at the Skirball! Julie Andrews is infinitely more than the sum of Mary Poppins and Maria von Trapp. Those iconic roles, which lit up screens less than one year apart, launched her film career and turned her into a legend. She now pulls the curtain back to share what went on behind the scenes. Her memoir, Home Work, chronicles Andrews’s experience in Hollywood, and in her personal life. It’s honest, funny, and sometimes painful as she reveals her challenges with her brilliant late husband, Blake Edwards, as well as with her blended family. Many of her films are cultural touchstones; Home Work reminds us of Andrews’s grace, humor, and extraordinary talent.

In conversation with Mary McNamara. McNamara is a culture critic for the Los Angeles Times, where she has covered a wide variety of beats in a wide variety of positions. As a television critic, she won the Pulitzer Prize in criticism. She is the author of the Hollywood mysteries Oscar Season and The Starlet.

Books will be distributed at will call on the night of the program. Additional books available for purchase.
