About the Participants

Ilana Kaufman (she/her) is the Chief Executive Officer of the Jews of Color Initiative. Her work sits at the center of Jewish community, racial equity, and justice. It is anchored by the voices and experiences of Jews of Color, and is focused on grantmaking, research and field building, and community education. Ilana is passionate about all things at the intersection of Jewish community, racial justice, Jews of Color, education, and philanthropy. She has appeared as a guest on NPR’s All Things Considered and Code Switch, written pieces featured in eJewish Philanthropy and The Foundation Review, and delivered an Eli Talk titled "Who Counts, Race and the Jewish Future" with over 45,000 views. Ilana was previously the Public Affairs and Civic Engagement Director, East Bay for the San Francisco, Bay Area Jewish Community Relations Council. A Senior Schusterman Fellow who is always searching Jewish text for discussion of equity and justice, Ilana received her BA in Sociology from California State University-Humboldt and her MA in Educational Pedagogy from Mills College.

Dr. Marc Dollinger holds the Richard and Rhoda Goldman Endowed Chair in Jewish Studies and Social Responsibility at San Francisco State University. He has served as a research fellow at Princeton University’s Center for the Study of Religion as well as the Andrew W. Mellon Post-doctoral Fellow and Lecturer in the Humanities at Bryn Mawr College, where he coordinated the program in Jewish Studies. Professor Dollinger is author of four scholarly books in American Jewish history, including Black Power, Jewish Politics: Reinventing The Alliance in the 1960s. He sat on the California advisory committee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights, was named Volunteer of the Year by the SF Jewish Community Federation, and was awarded the San Francisco JCRC’s Courageous Leader award. Just for fun, Dr. Dollinger helped actress Helen Hunt learn about her Jewish roots on the prime-time NBC show Who Do You Think You Are?
