Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Advancement


Description:

The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a self-motivated, responsible, and flexible team player with superior communication skills for the position of Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Advancement. The Advancement department is responsible for advancing the mission of the Skirball through increased fundraising. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to gain a broad education in fundraising for one of the most dynamic cultural institutions in the country.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a knowledgeable representative of the Skirball Cultural Center.
  • Process donations under $10,000; send out invoices, receipts, and thank-you letters.
  • Track and update donation reports.
  • Gather, maintain, and research information about potential foundations and corporate and individual supporters.
  • Assist with preparation of grant applications, both hard copies and online.
  • Manage multiple databases, ensuring that accuracy and integrity of information is maintained.

Qualifications:

  • Four-year college degree and two years of progressively responsible experience in an administrative role within a corporate or preferably nonprofit or cultural environment.
  • Superior organizational skills.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, including editing and proofreading.
  • Strong attention to details, deadlines, and follow-through.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and manage a changing and varied workload.
  • Team player attitude with excellent people skills; strong understanding of the relationship cultivation process.
  • Proficiency in computer research.
  • Excellent computer skills, including solid experience using Raiser’s Edge, Excel, and FileMaker Pro.

Associate Director of Education



Description:

The Skirball Cultural Center (SCC) of Los Angeles seeks an Associate Director of Education. Reporting to the Director of Education, the Associate Director provides leadership in the development and implementation of innovative educational programs for students in grades Pre-K through 12, teachers, teens, and families. The Associate Director supervises managers of education program areas and works closely with the Museum, External Affairs, Public Programs, and Operations staff to ensure program success.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the planning of new and revised experiential programs for students, teachers, teens, and families; works with managers to develop curricula and other materials for new educational programs; reviews, edits and approves curricula; ensures educational offerings meet content and audience goals.

  • May directly supervise the Head of School and Teacher Programs, Head of Family Programs, and/or Noah’s Ark Gallery Manager; undertakes all related management responsibilities, including assigning tasks and monitoring progress; performance reviews, compliance with institutional policies, providing in-service training and professional development opportunities as needed.

  • Participates in determining future directions for specific programs as well as the Education Department as a whole.

  • Administers and tracks Education Department budget, ensures expenditures comply with approved budget, and develops annual budget with Director of Education and managers.

  • Supervises the evaluation of existing and proposed programs, interprets data, and proposes changes to curricula as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in museum education or closely related arena. Demonstrated skill, leadership, and entrepreneurial abilities in developing and managing successful educational programs in a non-traditional setting.

  • Excellent management and supervisory skills, including experience developing and managing budgets where resources are limited.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; proven success in developing productive relationships across an organization and across the field; and demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds.

  • Excellent communication skills, including strong writing and editing abilities.

  • Willingness to assist where needed, accept and support change, and adapt to individual differences when interacting with team members.

  • Knowledge of Jewish culture and history desirable.
