Meet Skirballer Cindy Robles

Meet Cindy Robles, a Security Guard. Cindy has been with us for about twenty-eight years! With nine years of experience in our Catering department and nineteen years in Security, Cindy sat down with us to discuss some of her interests and share a little more about her work as a member of Security at the Skirball Cultural Center.

Q: Tell us about an exhibition that you’ve enjoyed here at the Skirball.

A: One of the past exhibitions that I enjoyed was El Sueno Americano/ The American Dream. I enjoyed reading messages that guests would write down about their dreams of coming to America. My parents were immigrants, and one day they decided to leave El Salvador to look for El Sueno Americano. They came here in search of greater opportunities, looking for freedom (escaping the war in El Salvador) and a better quality of life. After living here for so many years, they were able to become U.S. Citizens. I was born and raised in America, and thanks to my parents, I am able to give my kids a good education.

Q: Describe a Skirball event you recently attended, and what made it special for you?

A: The event that I had the opportunity to attend was a Common Ground dinner last year. What made it special to me was being able to participate in honor of my beloved husband by having our executive Chef, Sean, create a Cactus Dish salad that my husband would have made here at the Skirball. I also had the opportunity to taste other foods from different countries that my co-workers shared as well.

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

A: I enjoy spending quality time with my family. Just like my work in Security, I value their safety, protecting them from any danger, and taking care of them when they are ill or injured.

Q: Anyone at the Skirball you particularly enjoy working with?

A: One of my co-workers who has gone above and beyond representing the Skirball is Mr. Eddie Hernandez. When Mr. Hernandez was a site manager, he would go above and beyond in directing his leadership as a manager within our department. Every time I had a question to ask, he would have an answer or try to help out. I have learned a lot from all the training that he has given within our department and continues to do so.

Q: Tell us about something you are looking forward to in the future.

A: I am looking forward to rebuilding resilience and stepping outside of my comfort zone by engaging more with people in my community. Additionally, I aim to continue to show up as the best version of myself by being both responsible and professional at my job.

Skirball was my first job. It’s where I met my beloved late husband, Rafa. Where I had my bridal shower, wedding reception, and two-baby showers.

If that isn’t the definition of a Skirball-er we don’t know what it is! Thank you, Cindy, for all that you do here at the Skirball.
