About the Program

Israeli-born musician Guy Mintus possesses the finesse of a trained concert pianist, the energy of a rockstar, and the adventurous spirit of a jazz musician. See Mintus and his fellow trio members Alon Near and Philippe Lemm perform songs from their recent album, A Gershwin Playground—a dazzling tribute to the American Jewish musical legend.

With their bold reimagining of hits like “Summertime” and “Rhapsody in Blue,” the trio defies expectation and “takes listeners on a rocket ride to heights where they can see these tunes as if for the first time” (DownBeat Magazine).

“Mintus pours together a mixed brew of influences—Arabic makam, Jewish folk song, Eastern European dance rhythms and, especially, classic hard bop—with ebullient grace that you’d think they all originated in the very same place.”—New York Times
