About the Class
Projects will include a 4" Tu B'Shevat–inspired planter and a Seder plate. You'll use a slab construction method—rolling clay to an even thickness and then shaping it into the desired form. To add visual interest, you'll experiment with both found-object stamps from nature and commercially made stamps, bringing texture and meaning to each piece. Samples of finished and glazed pieces will be available during class to inspire your own designs and help you choose final glaze colors. Glazes will be applied by the instructor using an airbrush at the kilm site. Finished pieces will be ready for pick-up at the Skirball approximately two weeks after the last class—just in time for Pesach!
Instructor: Allison Goodman has been an artist and designer for over forty years practicing in the fields of graphic design, environmental design, and ceramics. Her degrees are Carnegie-Mellon University (BFA) and the ArtCenter College of Design (MFA), where her studies of Digital Theory have inspired her latest experiments in 3D printed ceramics. Allison's Judaica-inspired ceramics can be found in Skirball's Audrey's Museum Store.
