About the Program

Take part in a new American tradition of connection and warmth! This culminating event for the Skirball's presentation of Jayna Zweiman's national Welcome Blanket project invites you to help package blankets for families newly arriving to the United States. Join project organizers, partner organizations, contributors, and a group of dedicated volunteers as we wrap up more than two hundred blankets.

Since last fall, the Skirball has showcased an ever-changing installation by collecting, cataloging, and displaying new Welcome Blankets as submitted by caring (and crafty!) individuals. As the Skirball installation concludes, Welcome Blanket lives on as more and more individuals and community partners get involved.

“Political activism can take many forms. Welcome Blanket takes the notion one step further: individuals and organizations can powerfully express their democratic values through crafting and visual statement, all the while creating a useful object to give to someone, that is ceremoniously kind, engaging, and politically powerful.”Jayna Zweiman
