Docent-led private tours of our permanent exhibition, Visions and Values: Jewish Life from Antiquity to America, are always available. Let one of our docents take you through a journey of the Jewish American experience today.
Additionally, we are now scheduling a private tour of two temporary exhibitions. Visitors will spend the majority of their time learning about Inventing America: The Comic Book Revolution, with additional time spent learning about Outsiders, Outcasts, Rebels + Weirdos: Punk Culture 1976-86.
More About Comics and Punks
Both comic books and early punk culture emerged as outsider-driven, do-it-yourself movements that challenged who gets to define American culture and identity. Long dismissed as juvenile, unserious, or dangerous, the parallel histories of comics and punk music were created largely outside established institutions by artists responding to social upheaval or cultural exclusion.
Over time, comics and punk culture evolved from marginal subcultures into influential cultural forces while retaining their oppositional spirit as vehicles for self-expression and reinvention.
This one-hour private tour will highlight objects from both exhibitions that speak specifically to their respective tendencies toward reactionary subversion, countercultural messages, Jewish origins, and diversity in representation.

Guidelines for Private Tours and Self-Guided Group Visits
Private Tour Days and Times
We do not book private tours outside of museum hours, on Thursdays, or during times that conflict with public tours. If you would like to book your group visit outside of normal museum hours, you can contact our Hospitality and Private Events Department at private-events@skirball.org.
Duration
Private tours typically last one hour. If you're choosing a lunch package, please allot an additional 60- to 90-minutes.
Group Size
A minimum of ten people and a maximum of twenty people are required for most private tours or self-guided group visits.
For efficiency's sake, we need to charge a bit more for less than ten people, but visitors get the benefit of a private, hourlong, docent-led tour. Lunch packages are not available for smaller groups, but groups are welcome to make a reservation at Zeidler's Café or stop by Judy's Counter on their own.
Intended Age Range
Participants in private tours should be high school-aged and up. Groups with younger children should arrange for a self-guided group visit. For younger children affiliated with a school or similar youth-oriented program, check out our School Programs or contact our Education team at education@skirball.org.
Payment and Pricing
All groups must pay for their packages at least two weeks before their tour date. Adjustments to your reservation may be made up until the day before your visit (during normal business hours). No adjustments can be made on the day of your visit.
Groups with fewer than the minimum number of people required may still book a private tour or self-guided group visit if the minimum payment requirement is met.
Members
While Members usually receive FREE Museum access, group minimums must be met. Any Skirball Members in your group beyond the minimum number of people required may be admitted to the Museum for FREE, however meals must still be paid for.
Museum Access
Participants in any private tour may access all temporary exhibitions and Visions and Values outside of their scheduled tour or lunch time. Self-guided group visitors also have access to all temporary exhibitions and Visions and Values.
Please note that Noah’s Ark is not included in any offer listed here. To book a group trip aboard Noah's Ark, call (877) SCC-4TIX or (877) 722-4849, Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm.
What’s the Difference Between a Public Tour and Private Tour?
Docent-led public tours of one or more of our temporary exhibitions take place on pre-set days and times. Anyone who happens to be in the gallery is welcome to hop in or hop out of the tour as they please.
A docent-led private tour is reserved for groups who book in advance. You will receive a listening device connected to the docent’s microphone so that you can listen to every word they say as you explore the gallery together. The listening devices are attached to lanyards that go around your neck, which also serves as an indicator that you are part of a private group and separate from the general public.
Private Event Space
If choosing a lunch package, lunch is provided in a public space. To reserve private space for a business meeting or social gathering, please contact our Hospitality and Private Events Department at private-events@skirball.org.
