About the Program
Witness the birth of the legendary superhero that catapulted Jack Kirby to mainstream comic book success. Set in 1942, the newly enhanced Captain America must do battle against Nazi Germany and the Red Skull as the U.S. enters World War II. Captain America: The First Avenger showcases the mental and physical transformation of Steve Rogers into the all-American superhero beloved for the past eight decades.
Directed by Joe Johnston (2011, 124 min., Rated PG-13)
Arrive early to view the exhibitions! Captain America: The First Avenger is the perfect complement to the exhibition Jack Kirby: Heroes and Humanity, which delves into the six-decade career of legendary comic book artist Jack Kirby (1917–1994). And don't miss Diane von Furstenberg: Woman Before Fashion; Away in the Catskills: Summers, Sour Cream, and Dirty Dancing; Common Ground; and Visions and Values while you're here.

JUST ADDED—DROP-IN AND DRAW

Los Angeles-based cartoonist and illustrator Jeaux Janovsky invites moviegoers to drop in and draw! Beginning at 7:00 pm, he'll lend support, encouragement, and pro tips while you draw superheroes, sunsets, buckets of popcorn, or whatever else inspires you.
Janovsky's work sits at the intersection of Saturday morning cartoon fever dreams, pop art/culture remixes, and mashed-up mischief. A graduate of California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) with a BFA in Character Animation, his practice spans comics, animation, toy design, and visual storytelling across both traditional and digital media.
