Educators at the Center
Through career readiness, student enrichment, and peer engagement, the Skirball Cultural Center is committed to cultivating meaningful experiences for high school students and emerging adults as part of our broader Youth Programs initiative.
After a four-year pause due to the pandemic, the Teen Advisory Committee was reestablished in spring 2024 with five high school students who met twice monthly to co-design teen-focused programs, contribute to exhibition planning, and support Skirball events. This committee offers leadership opportunities while ensuring our offerings remain relevant to teen audiences—shaping everything from Oasis nature guides to teen activations at Public Programs and laying the groundwork for future Teen Advisory Committee cohorts.
The Teen Advisory Committee complements the work of our Teacher Advisory Council (STAC), creating a continuum of educator and student voices that helps the Skirball stay responsive to both classroom realities and youth perspectives.
Looking ahead, we plan to expand the committee to ten students and integrate their voices more deeply into institutional priorities, including focus groups for the upcoming Museum Project. In doing so, we’re creating clear pathways for young people to guide strategic initiatives, co-create programs, and step into roles that will help shape the Skirball’s next chapter.
