About the Exhibition

As we confront escalating environmental concerns and pervasive societal inequities, trees remind us of the interconnectedness of our histories, our landscapes, and our collective futures. Harnessing the timeless and timely power of trees and their importance in Jewish thought and tradition, artists Ken Goldberg and Tiffany Shlain will create an art installation that draws inspiration from the complex landscape of Los Angeles and the science of tree dating. Ancient Wisdom for a Future Ecology: Trees, Time, and Technology will feature inscribed tree-ring sculptures inspired by Los Angeles history, a video "portrait" of the city’s tree canopy, and personalized "tributes" to specific trees in local neighborhoods created by the public using AI software.

Opening in conjunction with the Getty’s PST ART initiative Art & Science Collide, Ancient Wisdom for a Future Ecology: Trees, Time, and Technology brings a distinctly Jewish cultural experience to the regional event.
